7 AUG 2023 | I Trust Your Heart

‘Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident. One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.’

Psalm 27:3-4

‘NO! NO! NO! NOT AGAIN! WHY?! GOD!’ – I felt my heart scream out in pain as I heard the terrible news. It was yet another case of cancer within the community.

Sadly, none of us are immune to situations like this. In our broken world, there are bound to be diseases, conflicts and hardship.

David himself encountered many terrible situations in his life. In Psalm 27:3, he speaks of an army that encamps him, threatening to destroy his people, his family, and his life. However, instead of focusing on his fears, David declares – ‘I am not afraid! I am confident in my God!’

David’s confidence must have stemmed from his past experience of God. He trusted that the God who delivered him from the lions, bears, and mighty Goliath (1 Samuel 17), would similarly watch over him in his present predicament.

Surrounded by impending danger, David turns not to horses, chariots, allies or human efforts. Instead, he steadies and centres himself in the worship and presence of God – ‘one thing… will I seek after, that I may dwell in the house of the Lord… to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord…’ (Psalm 27:4).

Worship is powerful. In worship, we behold God for who He truly is – powerful, beautiful, victorious, sacrificial and loving. When we behold God’s greatness and love, our fears grow dim. In worship, we find ourselves saying to God, ‘I may not always understand Your ways, but I know I can trust Your heart.’

So, whatever difficulties we may be going through today, let us fix our eyes on Jesus and worship Him through it all. Let us find our peace and confidence in the presence of our great and loving God!

May the following song minister to you and stir up the faith to declare ‘I believe!’

I BELIEVE

Kelvin Chua

You’re my light and hope

Anchor for my soul

You’re my shelter from the storm

My refuge and my rock

Even when I cannot see

I will choose to trust in You

For in my helplessness

I’m reminded that

You are in control

I believe in the goodness of Your heart

I believe in Your love

I believe that in You I can always trust

Lord I believe

I believe

Ps. Kelvin Chua
